❓ Frequently Asked Questions

Q: HWMonitor shows CPU usage above 100% — is that a bug?
A: No. Since v1.53, HWMonitor uses utility counters (same as Windows Task Manager's "utility" mode) which reflect Turbo Boost/Precision Boost activity and can exceed 100%. This is correct behavior per Microsoft's documentation.

Q: Some cores show an asterisk (*) next to the clock speed.
A: The * marks the fastest cores (P-cores / preferred cores) on hybrid-architecture CPUs like Intel 12th–14th gen and AMD X3D. These cores run at slightly higher boost clocks.

Q: My NVIDIA GPU shows a non-zero PCIe PEX error counter.
A: PEX counters track L0-to-Recovery transitions (speed changes, width changes) — these are normal events, not real errors. Only the other PCIe error counters should stay at 0.

Q: How do I report a sensor bug?
A: In HWMonitor, go to File → Save to generate a full sensor report as a .txt file, then email it to: hwmonitor@usa.com
